Karin Somemiya 「花梨 染宮」
Height and Weight: 6' (183 cm), 179 lbs (81.5 kg)
Year Level: Year Two
A sledgehammer with carbon fiber shaft.
(Obviously) not a rare antique, he'd just buy another if one breaks.
Karin is trained in traditional swordfighting and archery. Him choosing a sledgehammer, a crude, blunt instrument made to destroy things-- shows that part his psyche that doesn't care about the supposedly taught discipline, artistry and benevolence.
Arcana: [VII] Chariot
Arcana Rank: Rank One
PERSONALITYKarin is polite, formal, detached--like a well-trained purebred horse. He’s friendly by default, helpful and would come to the rescue of strangers in distress, but that's more a practiced stance, he is is ‘supposed to’ be kind to everyone (unless they deserve otherwise). There’s always been a gap between the conduct he shows and things he was taught not to (partly because his family’s beliefs can be considered non-mainstream), and Karin has yet to find a way to bridge the two.
By most accounts, he’s a good son and student; his studies and grades are fine, and he knows how to be discreet about less-wholesome things. Because of the condition back home, his mother told him that as much as he can help it, never to let his weaknesses show, an advice he took to heart.
The Somei, a hundreds-years old cherry tree venerated in his island hometown.
His island hometown.

Wagashi, seafood, carrots, corn, meat.
Karin carries a strained relationship with his older brother Kazusa 「一桜」.

Getting sick. Normally very healthy, but at the rare times he does get sick, he's rather grouchy.
Slippery foods, green beans, pumpkin.
STRENGTHS✚ Healthy and athletic.
✚ Durable, high pain/fatigue tolerance.
✚ Confident and certain.
✚ Friendly, socially well-adjusted.
✚ School subjects: Mathematics, PE, History and Japanese Literature.

HISTORYThe Somemiya is a western coast landlord family who made its fortune during the Meiji Restoration in shipping. An ancient, rather provincial lineage, it still quietly carries long-held (arguably questionable) traditions, beliefs and superstitions.
Now a multi-national freight forwarding enterprise, the company and main family are based on Yokohama and greater Tokyo metropolitan area. Karin, however, spent his first 12 years being raised in a remote island located in the heart of the clan's ancestral lands. His older brother (and presumed heir of the family) Kazusa has been frail since birth, and it was decided to raise him far from the polluted cities. 4 years later, Karin was born, a perfectly healthy child.
As things are, there are relatives who think the family (or themselves) would have more to gain if Karin (instead of Kazusa) succeed the name. Their mother tries to keep the ‘nonsense’ at minimum, but both brothers were nevertheless dragged into these adult concerns, which gradually sour their relationship.
Karin moving to Kirimori is the latest of the many attempts to lessen the tension at home. The town has a well-acknowledged highschool, a wholesome reputation, and he's trusted enough to live on his own. It is unclear how the boy feels about this (or even, whether he was the one suggested it).
TRIVIA- Karin entered public education starting middle school in Yokohoma, having been home-tutored up to then along with Kazusa. It was an all-boys private school, but not a dormitory.
- His father married into the name, his mother Kazashi 「華」 is the matriarch of the family.
- The Minotaur persona fits his personality/ background in the way that it's a savage beast-man living inside (manmade) structures and boundaries.
- There's a tiny, very traditional village near the villa where the Somemiya brothers were raised.
- At the twilight of the Meiji period, someone planted white-petaled cherry trees all over the island, as if populating the place so Somei would not be the only one growing there.
RP SAMPLEHis name was called, and he stood up from his seat. A tall, fair boy, neatly short champagne hair parted on the side.
“I’m Somemiya Karin,” he opened, “Those who were in the same homeroom last year already know, but I lived in Yokohama before coming here,” smiling, “I don’t like pumpkins. I hope we get along.”
